Shade Hotels rebrand with coastal luxury and summer programming
Shade Hotels, the beloved coastal duo from South Bay hotelier Michael Zislis, is unveiling a new era for its Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach locations. The full-scale refresh across both properties includes vibrant new guest room designs, revamped restaurant menus, playful rooftop programming and a stylish new identity reflecting the brand’s distinctly breezy, SoCal spirit.

Fresh chapter for Shade Hotels with new names and elevated experiences
With the relaunch comes a new name for each hotel: Shade at the Beach (Manhattan Beach) and Shade at the Marina (Redondo Beach). The redesigns elevate the signature Shade experience while staying rooted in the laid-back luxury that’s made the brand a South Bay favorite for nearly two decades.
“This refresh is about more than design updates. It’s about continuing to evolve with our guests and creating spaces and experiences that feel both elevated and personal,” says Michael Zislis, founder of Shade Hotels. “We take pride in offering the very best. Shade at the Beach: Coastal comfort with a modern glow-up
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Shade at the Beach debuts light, airy guest rooms inspired by the sea. Spa-style bathrooms with oversized soaking tubs, steam showers and Tempur-Pedic beds elevate the experience. Upgraded tech and soundproofing add even more comfort.
zinc@shade, led by Executive Chef Hayato Yanai, serves globally inspired dishes like Black Cod with housemade miso and Crispy Skin Norwegian Salmon over sweet corn risotto. Cocktails range from the Cucumber Pear Martini to a Smokin’ Paloma and espresso martinis, plus refreshing Zero Proof options like the Pineapple Mockarita.
Shade Hour, now offered daily from 3 – 6 p.m., features $10 bites and cocktails on the breezy indoor-outdoor terrace, with live music, bottomless mimosas and good vibes.
The Skydeck rooftop is now a sun-soaked oasis with a new pool, cabanas, and flexible event spaces ideal for weddings and gatherings. Catering menus have been refreshed to match.
Shade at the Marina: Waterfront luxury meets laid-back lounging
Just steps from the harbor, Shade at the Marina continues to shine in its ninth year with upgraded guest rooms, private balconies, soaking tubs and signature Tempur-Pedic comfort.
Sea Level Restaurant & Lounge, helmed by Executive Chef Tony Zermeno, highlights coastal flavors — think Lobster Mac and Cheese, Linguini Del Mar and Grilled Tiger Prawns. Signature cocktails include the Perfect Pear and Marina Margarita, with Zero Proof selections like the Spicy Guava Mockarita.
Daily breakfast is complimentary for hotel guests. The new $10 Shade Hour runs from 3 – 6 p.m. daily, and weekend brunch starts at 10 a.m.
