Where architecture, art and the desert converge
Part of the Foundation’s Exhibitions Artist-in-Residence (EXAIR) program, Desert Mirror explores how Taliesin West continues to inspire contemporary makers through direct engagement with its architecture, history and desert environment. Developed over Hanson’s two-year residency, the exhibition features newly created works spanning weaving, sculpture and video, all rooted in Frank Lloyd Wright’s principles of Organic Architecture and the Desert Masonry construction method.
“Desert Mirror transforms one artist’s experience of Taliesin West into an invitation for visitors to slow down, observe and reflect on their own relationship with the environments they inhabit,” says Niki Ciccotelli Stewart, vice president and chief learning & engagement officer at the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. “Hanson’s work explores what is seen and unseen at the site, encouraging a deeper awareness of the forces that shape how we live.”

What to expect at Desert Mirror
Installed across five distinct locations at Taliesin West, the exhibition places Hanson’s tapestries, mirrored sculptures and video works in direct dialogue with Wright’s historic spaces, including:
- Wright’s Office
- The Garden Room
- Tower Fountain
- Kiva
- Cabaret
Video works filmed onsite trace the movement of desert stones, echoing the apprentices who once gathered local materials to construct Wright’s winter home.
The complete exhibition experience is available exclusively through the Self-Guided Audio Tour, allowing visitors to encounter Hanson’s work organically as part of their architectural journey.
